hey guys, i hope you can help me.
I have a 160gb western digital hard drive which i have been using for about a year now. Sine I am running windows xp my hard drive was limited to 127gb. My question is if i update to sp1 or 2 and gain the ability to raise my hard drive space to 160, will i lose any of my files or will windows automatically show the hard drive as 160gb rather then 127gb?

General consensus is that regardless of the particular reasons service pack 2 should be applied.
Basically the pros far outweight the cons for applying the service pack.
As with ALL upgrades and/or major software changes backing up important files is prudent but is purely precautionary as in 95% (at least) of cases SP2 will apply without problems.
Hopefully the extra space should become usable as long as there aren't other limitations to your setup ie: that the age of your motherboards bios prevents all the drive being seen, in this case you may need to flash your bios to the latest.

As Martin says, the full 160 (or probably c.150 in windows) GB should be available after installing SP1 or 2 - - if bios supports it.

But the extra space will not be partitioned - as you could only see c. 127GB originally, that will be size of partition - so you'll need to create a second partition to make space available (or use something like Partition Magic to extend current partition - if you take this route, BACK UP first).

Your current files etc should be unchanged.
