I've tried several ways to improve login time to our exchange 5.5 server. We use outlook 2000 (corporate/workgroup)on win98se stations. When we open up outlook it takes about 20 seconds to get it to do anything. It takes this long to validate on the exchnage server. I configured the stations to use wins, checked the binding order, and included an entry in the hosts file. All of these ways seemed not to speed things up unfortunately. Anybody know how to speed up validation?
Yes the Hosts and binding order are configured fine. One possible problem could be is that we dont hae a DNS server configured. All our workstations have dns setup in their network properties pointing to our firewall on Nt server and it's not setup. The exchange server is on a different NT server and dns is setup pointing to the firewall server. We don't have dhcp setup. So could the problem be that all the workstations are looking for a dns server without one setup at the address specified? Should we setup the exchange server as a dns & dhcp server?
