Increasing Dial-up Speeds?

Currently I have a small modem pool of USR modems, that attach to an Equinox Board. Users hit the network at a blazing 28.8 KB. Is there hardware out there that will allow for higher connectivity speeds? These pots lines are split/muxed out of a T-1 in my network room. The goal would be to achieve 56 KB per session/ user.
