We have a T1 connecting the main office with a satellite office in another state connected using two 2620 Cisco routers. The T1 also carries voice between them and for an 800 dial-up. The main router has a High Density Voice port adapter along with the T1 Wan adapter and a 4 wire CSU/DSU Wan card.

I would like to increase the bandwidth of the data lines which are currently configured to use timeslots 1-4 (voice using slots 13-24). Am I able to simply change the data slots to 1-12 on both routers or are there additional issues involved that I may even need to get AT&T involved in?

First question is did you buy a full t-1? if so then it appears that channels 5 thru 12 are sitting there unused costing you money. You should definitly check with your 800 provider. Make sure it won't affect the way they point your 800 number. If you add channel 5 to your data port you might nock out the hunting on your voice port. it is very possible that the 800 number points to the first available trunk starting at 13. If this is the case and you do in fact own the dormant channels than you could turn them up on both sides. A word of warning affect changes to the remote end first. if you change your end to increase the timeslots and the other end isn't setup properly you could take enough errors to bring the data portion of the t-1 down. Good luck "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU"

Thanks, it is a full T1 and according to the router configuration channels 5-12 are unused.

Config for T1:
!
controller T1 0/1
framing esf
linecode b8zs
channel-group 0 timeslots 1-4 speed 64
tdm-group 1 timeslots 13-24 type e&m
description T1 from AT&T CO

controller T1 0/2
framing esf
linecode b8zs
tdm-group 2 timeslots 13-24 type e&m
description T1 to PBX

I'd wait till after hours add the additional channels to your data port. (Then again i'm very adventurous) first try to add one i.e. chang the controller to reflect time slots 1-5 on the far end and then on the near end. this will also decrease the possibility of dropping the data connection due to frame sync loss or excessive errors. When you have completed this clear the counters on both sides and wait at least ten minutes then do a show int xxx where xxx is your int. Be sure that you haven't built up any crc errors if not try adding the rest of the channels. You should also be testing you 800 number through out this to make sure you haven't brought that down by accident

Good Luck
