Hi all, Just a quick query on something I'm not sure would be beneficial to my pcs.

I got a letter from a friend and in it he states ". . . get to "msconfig", and once up click on 'boot' tab. On that window move your cursor to the upper left [to where it says] 'processors 1'. Then he says if you have dual or more processors you can increase the number of processors turned on. Also you can do the same with RAM."

Is this a safe thing to do? He didn't specify which OS it could be done on. Sorry for no more info than this.

I thank you in advance.

Your friend is mistaken. Checking those checkboxes allow you to LIMIT the processors / RAM used on bootup. This is only for troubleshooting problems. It would not be beneficial otherwise. You should leave them unchecked (which is the default), which will use all available processors and RAM.

From
Advanced boot options:

Number of processors. Limits the number of processors used on a multiprocessor system. If the check box is selected, the system boots using only the number of processors in the drop-down list.
Maximum memory. Specifies the maximum amount of physical memory used by the operating system to simulate a low memory configuration. The value in the text box is megabytes (MB).

Thank guitarzan for your quick reply. I will inform him he is incorrect.
