Hi

Any assistance with the following would be much appreciated:

Currently using Ex 2003 SP2; (no registry change made as yet to increase the mailbox database size).

I know that the with SP2 (Standard) the mailbox databse size is changed to 18Gb. However our physical mailbox sizes (priv1.edb and priv1.stm. are a total of 15358.

Deleted items retention is 5 days and after a daily online defrag the mailbox store can be up to 2gb or as low as 338mB.

So here is the question - do I need to add a manual registry entry to specify a new higher database limit or will the edb/stm file sizes start to grow to 18Gb once there is no free space after a defrag.

Cheers

Well you're already at roughly 15GB so unless you have a lot of white space in the database it might be worth you editing the registry up to 20GB or so. But to answer your question you don't need to do anything. The store will internally defrag, fill up the white space and then go down at 18GB unless you up it beforehand.

Ok thanks for the response!

So just to recap - once all the whitespace is used the physical file size will start to grow to 18Gb max?

Cheers

Yup, but just don't let it stop otherwise your users will be somewhat peeved with you.

Ha sure thing! Thanks again!
