Hi all,
How can I increase the size of the root and /usr directories??
Here is my info:
I am running Digital UNIX v4.0G on an ES40, (It is a new system that we had about 3 weeks ago), The system disk is 18.2GB, the / partition on it is only using 64MB, and the /usr partition is using 128MB, and the rest of the disk is unused.
What I need to do, is change the sizes of the partitions and also add a swap partition to that disk.
I know I have to backup the / and /usr somewhere and then dump them back after resizing. The problem is I DON'T KNOW A SAFE WAY TO DO IT!!!
I have another 18.2 GB drive that is connected through a fiber switch and HSG80 controller...
Please ADVICE!!!

MKMA,

I don't know, sorry. This kind of thing tends to be specific to a particular version of UNIX.

Have you looked through/posted to the "DEC (Compaq): DIGITAL UNIX" and "DEC (Compaq): ULTRIX" forums here on tek-tips? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

I would go to single user mode and reconfigure. If you have backups you should not have any problem.
