Have a customer in the Central Jersey area who lost power with the recent storm. The power situation blew out their firewall and some of their other equipment. When they brought the NBX back up, the system shows "NO LICENSE". It's a V3000 that was shipped with and has been running R5_0_31. Now NetSet shows there is no license for the software and also shows incorrect system ID. Contacted 3Com Support who says system reverted to default NBX system ID when battery died. They said replacing battery may bring it back but no luck. Unable to get anyone in this 3Com group this weekend. Customer is a retail store and is open on weekends. Any help/suggestions appreciated.

thats really weird because the system id is a hardware id the is on the green circuit board that the hard drive is attached to. They dont have a warranty contract with 3com do they?

Thanks, cknipe. No, they do not have a contract. 3Com support said the electrical issues fried the board and it is unrecoverable. It works in all other aspects so I'm not convinced it is unrecoverable but without a contract, there is nothing else I can do but replace it.

I think youre pretty hosed without a contract....

However....your next best bet...depending on the amount of users they have is buying on e off ebay. If they are a small office (under 15 users), remember the NBX comes with 15 free group 2 licenses. Or now that the nbx is discontinued, maybe youll have some luck finding a system with a bunch of licenses. We bought one from a customer a while back that had 2 t1 cards and 60 group 2 licenses for $600.

Yes, thanks. We've sourced parts and replacements through eBay successfully before. This is a smaller branch of a retail chain. They've been talking about redoing the chain wide infrastructure for a while. They're taking this opportunity to deploy an integrated ShoreTel system to all the stores. It's a good move for them.
