When I try to create a Parameter field in an existing report using an existing field, the field on the report is blank.

Yes, I did create the Parameter Field by following the path "Insert, Parameter, Field Explorer, New, Name, Prompting Text, Value Type (I want to use "Date"), Range Value(s), Set Default Values, Browse Table, Browse Field, etc." hit "Okay".

When I pull the new Parameter Field into the report, save, repost the data and run the report, I get a prompt to "Enter the Parameter Values", I enter the values I want returned, yet the field comes back blank and all values are returned instead of the values for the specified range.

What gives? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

For date, make sure you are entering a 4 digit year, 2 digit day and month.

Do you want to use this parameter for record selection?
If so, is this parameter part of your record selection formula? Malcolm

If you are using the para for record selection have a look at you DB and see what type the field is set to. Then make sure that your parameter is set to the same.

This maybe the maybe the prob but maybe not, sometimes it does cause a problem

Malk & EscapeUK: Yes, I'm using the same date format that's used in the database.

MalcolmW: Yes, I need to use the parameter for record selection. How do you create a record selection formula?

Thanks.

In report -> Record selection formula, you enter your record selection. here is an example of how I select records based on date parameter fields:
Date ( {@year to num}, {@month to num}, {@day to num} )
in
Date ({?after year}, {?after month}, {?after day})
to
Date (9999, 12, 31)

It has a starting date of parameters "after year/after month/after day" and Ending date 12/31/9999

Hope this helps

I use:

{CC_CALLS.TIME} > {?from} and
{CC_CALLS.TIME} < {?to}

:)
