incorrect network card settings

I've been trying to connect to the internet from my ultra 10 via a cable modem. However no success. I'm using the same settings as the ones I use in linux(PC).

I can see the modem lights flashing as if it is trying to connect.

Could there be a problem with the network card(works fine when connected to a hub)

Does it not like cable modems.

Any help will be appriciated .
