Hi, I have set-up a new extension in location 150, location 150 has location parameters number 24. However when I pick the handset up to receive dial tone, I see a bunch of denial events and that the handset tries to use audio codec "G711A" instead of "G729"

If I change the location settings to use location parameters 20, the trace is shown as expected.

Trace using location Paraemters 24;

My question is, where in the location parameters would it define the Audio Codec? as I believed this was defined in the IP-Network-Region, and different location parameters do not select different network regions??

Please help!!!

Thank you

Dan

Im am guessing your network region (200) is using the wrong codec to communicate with other regions , what codec set is region 200 using and what preferences are set for that codec set "ch ip-codec-set X" where x is the codec set that is set in region 2

I do not think this is an issue with NR 200, what I am trying to establish is why the phone seems to work with one set of location parameters and not the other set? Location Parameters should not impact what region is selected or the codec that is used? I even duplicated the two location parameters and applied to that station, location parameters 20 work fine location parameters 24 come up with the G711 codec and also the denial events.

Any Clues??

You obviously define the location in the network region form , so is the network region where location 24 is set using the correct codec set?

Ok, so on extension 2170303 I have set the location to: 150
On Location 150 I have set the Location Parameters to 24
I test dial and get the error
I complete "change locations" scroll to location 150 and change the location parameters to 20
I test dial and the error is gone

I know that the location is generally defined by the IP-Network-Map and that the codec options are picked up from the IP-Network-Region.

However, in this instance it should work as the location is forced.

In the second dial example you see the call select NR 120 (NR 120 = location 120, location 120 = location parameters 20)
In the second dial example you see the call select NR 200 but this is wrong, it should select NR 150

I am not sure why the call is selecting these Network regions based on Location Parameters page??

also, in the first test, it should not have selected NR 120, it still should have selected NR 150... I am confused why the location parameters page is impacting the NR selection :-S

I think it is to do with the fact that the local gateway for NR 150 is not live yet...!!

Actually looking at your trace error 2300 ept capabilities mismatch , this could be the companding mode on the location parameters form , do they both tally , as effectivly im sure this error is saying the endpoint does not like the setting its being sent.

Yes, I duplicated the settings so that the settings in Location Parameters 20 and 24 were identical, and the issue remained. Location 150 uses LP 20 = no problem
Location 150 uses LP 24 = missmatch

my only explanation is that because I am actually sitting in NR 200 but forcing the station to believe it is in NR 150 (or location 150) it looks for the local GW and finds nothing, so treats the call as NR200 calling NR200 and tries to use codec G711A which is correct as LAN calls should use G711A

But then the missmatch occurs when the system reads that it should use G729 based on the actual programming.

When LP20 is selected, somehow the system assosiates that with location 120 (I guess via the location settings) and then creates a call between the local GW in location 120 and uses the correct WAN codec

This is a complete guess mind you, but when I see that in the second call trace;

rgn:200 [10.239.24.98]:2672
rgn:120 [10.218.16.17]:2120

10.239.24.98 = Handset IP in NR 200 (but location forced to 150)
10.218.16.17 = G430 in Location 120

so it is the only logical guess I can think of....

Hello,

I have the same problem. what was eventially the main course?

if I remember rightly, it was a bw miss match in the IP-Network-region page.
