Hi,

I have an excel spreadsheet on a network drive, which links to other data sources.

I have an inconsistent problem with a simple formula.

I have data in row cells where the value of a cell is linked to it's left hand neighbour, so using the formula:-

=+AB503

=+AC503

=+AD503

=+AE503

=+AF503

Updating the left most cell should update all the others, but sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it does. I'm not sure how I can eradicate this inconsistency.

I've put the formulas on manual.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Don't use manual calculation if you want everything to update consistently

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

What Geoff said.

Also, why the "+"?

Just =AB503 does the same thing.

it's ex Lotus notation John...you could start a formula with + or - rather than just = and excel retained that for compatability...

You've solved a mystery for me. I thought it was an indication that the spreadsheet had been written by an accountant...

lol - that as well! I used to think it was an accountants thing. I think the correlation is that a lot of accountants used to use Lotus 123...
