hey all,

Our modem for incoming calls from remote users has just died.

So i popped to a local store and grabbed a cheapy usb modem. It seems to dial out fine - but wont pick up the incoming calls. Any ideas why? Is there something i need to configure? Can some modems not do this?

Many thanks

Dan

Have you configured it for Auto Answer? You don't say what OS or application that you are using. I'll assume that it is a Windows OS.

Open Hyperterminal (Start->Programs->Accessories->Communicaitons->Hyperterminal) and configure it to use your new modem.
Put in any number when it requests a number to dial.
Press the cancel button when the "Dialing" comes up.

Type: ATE1 Q0 S0=2

and press the Enter key

Dial into your new modem from any handy phone. You should see:

RING

RING

then it should answer and attempt to communicate. If this works, then you should just need to find where in your application you configure the new modem and set it to auto answer.
