I manage a Domino 5.08 server and 180 users. Since a while, every day a few users cannot see the mails in the $Inbox folder : it's empty or unreachable (you click on it and the focus goes to the following folder). But the mails are still in the $All view.
It looks like a virus...
Generally, I replace the template with Courier V5, then I stop and restart the Domino task and the mails reappear..
But today not.
I am not a Notes programmer but sometimes I have a look at Designer. How can I write an Agent to copy back the mails to the $Inbox folder ?
Or do you have a better idea ?
Laurent

Ydon't have to ( and can't ) copy the email documents to the inbox folder. It is only a view, not a folder. In simple terms, this just means that the view will show all documents in the database that meet certain criteria. In this case, mail documents that have been received and not deleted or "moved" to another view. If you can see the documents in the "All Documents" view, then you just have to figure out why they aren't showing in the "Inbox" view.

Sometimes a view can get corrupted in some way. Your users can do some things themselves to fix certain problems with their databases. These steps will work with any Notes database, not just the mail files.

To rebuild a specific view: Open that view by clicking on it in the left hand navigator pane ( in this case, click on "Inbox" ), then shift+F9.

To rebuild all views in a database: ctrl+shift+F9.

Sometimes a user's workspace ( Notes desktop ) can become corrupted. To fix this problem, read about compacting the workspace in the local help file. This file can be found on any workstation where Lotus Notes client is installed in the help folder. The file name is help5_client.nsf.

You can ( and should ) run some tasks on the server that will help to maintain clean databases. Read your Domino 5 Administration Help database to learn about compact, updall and fixup. This database can be found on any Domino 5 server in the help folder. The file name is Help5_admin.nsf.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the explanation, but I disagree : when I launch Designer, I see $Inbox as a folder, not a view...
I am using Notes 5.09
I sometimes do some compact or fixup but it takes too much time because the server is busy and the mail databases have an average of 200Mb to 400Mb, a few go to 800Mb...
All databases use 25Gb.

Actually, you are right. I was working on an incorrect assumption. However, from an administrative point of view, everything else I said still stands. Have your users try the Shift+F9 on their inbox.

Whether your server is busy or not, you should be scheduling compacts against your databases. Even once a week on weekend days would help with the database size and possible corruption issues.
