Inaccessible_Boot Device

I turned on my windows 2k professional and received a blue screen with the message " Inaccessible boot device"
I used the recovery console with the chkdsk /r option but still I receive the same message after restart and was wondering how to get the computer bootup.
Unfortunately, I do not have a backup of my family tax information for last year which would be needed badly for this year.Anyway, any suggestion

What were the reported results of chkdsk /r???

I would run a disk diagnostics routine, one you have or obtain the drive mfg's util.

You can try a repair install of the OS.

You might first want to install as slave in another PC to try to copy the files you need/can.

Learn a lesson, always back up what you cannot afford to lose.
