I'm new to the Nortel world so please bear with me.

I have a CS1k release 5 (maybe 5.5) using 1120, 1140 and 1150 IP handsets alone. They are deployed across multiple floors and each floor has it's own IP range which is setup in individual DHCP scopes.

Problem is if we move a phone between floors the handset doesn't release it's IP address and gateway details and therefore fails to load. The installers are looking into it but I figure I'll get an answer here quicker.

Any suggestions?

Check that under network configuration Catched IP is unchecked.

Is it possible you have the voice VLAN ID hardcoded on the phone instead of receiving the VLAN info via DHCP? If thats the case, then the phone won't work if plugged into a switch port that has a different voice VLAN assigned to it.
