Having an issue a INA board having to be reset ...either
with the reset button ....Data portion goes down but voice stays up .....T1 showing No errors

Ethernet Link led not showing when this happens

Its a point to point with a INA board at each end ...
we have replaced the INA board at the far end twice in the last year as well as Power supply once , Processor was replaced due to it not seeing slot 8 (INA) translation was
corupted ...reprogram from scratch (AHHHH !)
......using an earth ground now before it was poor grounding

This was due to lighting strike across T1 circuit popping
INA card ....Showing NO FIRMWARE and board in STANDBY

They state its NOT their Network that is causing the issue
as it seems to come back up after 'reset' or powering
down system and powering back up

Has anyone seen anything like this with the INA product as
we have others without this sort of issue

Any and all help would be great.....

Yes, I've had a similar problem and it was a network problem. At first the customer tried to use the circuit in a bridged network configuration (even though they were told the INA boards did not support it). After finally convincing them to install a second domain server at the remote location, they didn't properly setup the DNS, etc. Basically, if you can ping your two routers, you're o.k. You might also try activating RIP (I believe it is off by default) this might help to keep the circuit 'alive'.

Franke, in the process of setting up a point to point INA configuration. Want to set-up as a bridge, what would be the best way to setup? Do you have any configuration notes you could share to make this process go faster. I am using 12 channels for voice and 11 for data. I can ping both sides in the INA card but just would like to know a good route to implement a bridge setup without any hicups in the future. Thanks.

Site A:
CKE5
Magix 2.2 V7.2 HW VTG 2.0

slot 08
100R-U
HW VTG. 02
FW VTG. 01
APP. VTG. 20

Site B:CKE5
Magix 1.5 V6.0 HW VTG. 02

slot 12
100R-U
HW VTG. 02
FW VTG. 01
APP. VTG. 19

Site B is the site where the Ethernet connection
led lights go out as well but the voice channels remain
up and working without issue.

bridged network configuration : by this Franke do you mean
that they only have one server located at one side because in this case they actually have a sever located at each site ... I will check the site site the rip setting to see if this helps it stay "up and alive"
When its up and healthy its no issue to ping the far ends
local and remotes from both ends ...

Sorry not to get back sooner :(

First: There is no way to operate the INA boards in bridge routing mode without hicups, the INA board does not support this method. Bridged routing is generaly used to connect disparate protocols, such as ethernet to token ring, extend a LAN, etc., and works at the Layer 2 level using MAC addresses, disgarding what it considers useless header information (such as your Level 3 IP address). The INA board operates at the Layer 3 level, using protocols such as IP routing and is used to connect domains, such as your private domain to the internet domain (with the exception of VPN, which the INA does not support).

I'm not a Data-Dude, and I'm sure there are others that can explain the difference between the types of routing better and more in depth than I, but I want to get across the main point- don't use bridged routing. Can it be done? Possibly. Should it be done? No.

Pabell: Your situation 'sounds' as if your set up as intended, with a Domain server at each location. You will probably have to work closely with their IT people to ensure a proper setup. For instance, are they using a DNS server for name resolution, are the TTL's sufficiently long enough that clients aren't being purged prematurely, for instance- 10 min vs. 8 hrs.; are the default gateways set correctly; are the WAN IP addresses and subnets outside the ranges of both servers; are the addresses of the two domains different, etc. On the Merlin side, you can check the error reports for the repective cards and see if you are getting excessive errors at one end or the other. For a true diagnoses, we'd have to know the complete network configuration (including that of the INA boads).

Again, I apologize for the delayed response and if someone would care to correct me or expand on this subject in more depth, I'd be greatly interested.

franke (FYI) we did the wan setup where you enter
local as 0.0.0.0(this is why it does not show up on show w15)

remote as 255.255.255.255 and it goes out and learns the other sides settings

Pabell,
Could you do a 'show ether0' and post that as well. Thanks.
