The explode sub-assemblies during work order entry is grayed out and I cannot turn it on...any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are you setting up a new system? What version? Where is your reseller?

It is version 4.0 and it is a system that has already been setup. We could access this field before. It is available to turn on in a test company but not in our main environment.
