i'm writing a web search engine. it's throwing out links to thousands of jpegs, and other images. some of the links are broken though, and some point to websites which don't allow external linking. how can i check a link as it's created, so that i'm not filling my database with crap? i don't want to download the entire image just to check, i just want to ensure that an image is returned, as opposed to a html with a 404 error, or something else, on it.
