in upgrading from 7.6 to 8.0 on a powermac 5400/180 frozen foolproof

in our high school lab we needed to upgrade from 7.6 to 8.0 , in the process on one of the machines the foolproof security is frozen,, you can go thru the motions of unlocking it; but its still locked. I've contacted the "smartstuff" Co. that we got the software from, one week later and no response. I can't do anything to this machine until i can get the security off, any suggestions? would love some help. thank you

Can you do a clean install, or are all attempts to change the system blocked?
