In Place Upgrade - 3.6 to 4.x

My boss wants to upgrade the BES software to make full use of the new 8700 handsets.

I am the IT Admin here, but I am not familiar with Sql, MDAC, or MSDE...all of which are mentioned in the update process.

Is it a case of just sticking in the disc...and clicking next a few times, or is there much more to it than that? I have looked at the manual but it's just made me even more confused.

Also, due to the fact we are a small business, BES is installed on a business critical server which runs the office system (it is SQL based)...so downtime due to error on my part is not acceptable.

Just wondering if it's something a competent IT person can do, or if i need to get someone who knows more about the Microsoft database environments

Also, if i install MDAC 2.8, could it have any adverse affects on SQL Server?

okay, if you are already running sql, and BES is attached to it:

write down, remember who has BB. Write down the license and SRP numbers.

uninstall BES 3.6. Install BES 4. Update. Should take less than an hour.
