In my box root mails are forwarded

In my box root mails are forwarded to root@xx.yy.com ...an d I have the following entries in ./forward file
forwarded to root@xx.yy.com
Here I am getting one problem.... The message are getting bounced..saying that root@xx.yy.com is an unknown host..But whenever I am using ping -a xx.yy.com the IP address getting resolved.
So, how can I block the forwarding and resolve the unknown host error..?
