in line connector text.

Hi,
I'm doing up network diagrams. I'm using the connector buttom on the standard toolbar to represent cables connecting devices. Once I've added the connector I double click on it to add some text. But the test is always horizontal, I'd like it to be "in line" with the connector. I remember doing this years ago but cant remember how to do it. Can anyone tell me please?
