In layman's terms, what is trapping and how do I do it?

I'm using Illustrator CS, and also have access to Photoshop CS and InDesign CS.

I have two logos I was told needed to be "trapped". There are four PMS colors that are adjacent to each other, and our in-house printer needs to have trapping applied to avoid registration problems.

So, where do I start to figure out how to do this?

Indesign has it's own trapping feature when printed, Illustrator I have found it is easiest to trap using thin outlines and setting them to overprint, I have not heard of any trapping features in PhotoShop.

Thank you for telling me how to accomplish trapping. And I'm sorry I sound a little dense, but what exactly does the act of trapping mean?

Check out the FAQ for this forum. Read the Pre-Press basics.

Thanks for all of your answers.

Does illustrator have any trapping features?

The adobe link on trapping was excellent, and I'll also check the FAQ section. I did a term/word search on trapping on tek-tips, but didn't get many hits.

Try searching the Illustrator help files or look in the manual. I've actually found both of those to be very helpful. (Most people, myself included, jump to the inernet right away instead of looking in more obvious places first.)
