In IE when hyperlinking an excel doc it opens excel?

Ive tried in the file types/microsoft excel worksheet/edit/tick 'browse in same window'. But when I do this and click on the link it opens excel with nothing in it - the spreadsheet opens in the browser but I have to close excel before i can edit it which is a pain.

Can anyone help me?
