I have been tasked with setting up an in house domain controller for our impending migration to an in-house exchange server. I am running into a problem with the fact that we also have a website that is to remain hosted. Our email and the website use the same "example.com". I have not had much luck searching for a solution on how to point the http requests to the web hosting company, while still resolving dns and email for the local network.

Split brain will help, but keep in mind that you'd likely want something like mail.example.com for mail, not just example.com.
