We are getting following two errors when we are trying to execute a report thru Crystal Enterprise.

1. The request timed out because there has been no reply from the server for 600,000 milliseconds

2. The Page Server you are trying to connect to is not accessible. Please contact system Administrator [on cache/page server: servername].

Please help

Regards.

Hi,
( Need Version, OS, configuration ( single, clustered, etc) to be more specific), But:
they are probably 2 sides to the same coin - since the Pageserver could not be reached, the request failed to produce a reply within the timeout period.

You need to discover why the pageserver could not be contacted:

Is it Running and Enabled?

Are all the related services also running ( cache, web component, CMS/APS ( version dependent, and you did not specify), etc

What messages are in the Event Viewer relating to the Page server?

Need Version - CE 10
OS - AIX
App Server - Websphere
Both Crystal and Application Server are clustered (2 servers each)

All the services are up and running. Any small report (which take around 3-4 minutes) just runs fine. Only long running report which takes more than 10 mins are having this issue.

I checked in the log file. There is nothing. This could be because we do not have trace on for Page Server. Is there any other place where we can see meesages.

Sounds like one of th servers are timing out.

I thought that the default timeout was 10 minutes, at any rate go into the CMC and check what the timeout is for the Page/Job/Cache servers and up it if required.

A 10+ minute query is long, consider trying to create more efficient datasources.

-k

Timeout in CMC is set to 30 minutes. Also for page and cache server it is set to 30 minutes.

Any idea, where else we may have to change the setting

Hi,
Have you run the query that the report is using directly against the database ( which database is it, by the way.including version)?

How long does it take to start returning data?

The query takes around 25-30 minutes. The database is Oracle 9i

Hi,
That is very long for an Oracle query...Have you tried optimizing it..( Analyse the tables involved and then run an Explain Plan to see what is happening)..

If you are using Custom ASP pages check for the timeout setting for that as well ( in your Web server)..

But thats not my issue. The issue here is the timeout of Crystal in 10 mins. I need to get this fixed.

Regards.

Hi,
Is the error actually coming from Crystal or the web server?

Hi,
Just to verify:
For the Pageserver ( all in the cluster):
Both
Minutes Before an Idle Connection is Closed:
and
Minutes Before an Idle Report Job is Closed:
are set to > 30 Minutes ( try 45)

and for the cacheserver( also all in the cluster)
Minutes Before an Idle Connection is Closed: is set for at least as long?

As a further test, restrict that report to using just 1 of the clustered Page/cache servers...See if one works and the other doesn't.

What connection method to the database..does it have a timeout set?
