Hopeful someone may have come across this and has a work around. I have a database we export records out of for some accounting data. If you have someone miskey a number in a field say -=123.45 and it should be -123.45 is there a way to filter for that = sign so I know there is a error some where before exporting the records. I have tried several variations of some calc fileld but filemaker seems to ignore that or any other character when in a number field.

Thanks in advance for any help.

go to Define Fields, click on the number field in question, go to the validation tab. from there click Strict Data Type and set it to numeric. you also have options at the bottom of that screen for allowing overrides and custom messages.

Thanks for the help. Funny how you see things and ignore them when they are right there in front of you.
