I know that Avaya now uses UMS and IMS is obsolete.
I have a new client that another dealer used to maintain. They have and use IMS.
The old vendor really did a hack job.
Unfortunately I’m here to fix their screw ups.
I know that IMS still works on version 5 of the IP office.
Will it still work on version 7 or 8?
Anybody tested this?

Considering that the license was discontinued in 2009 probably not.

Maybe best to perform via smtp relay.

I can upgrade the IP office to the lastest R5 software correct ?

Sure, as long as it's not a SOE,403,406v1 or pre PCS 7 406v2 (with the smaller memory chip) :)

Was it 4.2 that UMS came in? Perhaps don't do R5...are you sure it's supported?

My Matrix tells me that the license was discontinued the same rough time that R5 hit the market.
However the matrix also still lists the supported OS specs. My guess is that IMS will work with R5 although I clearly don't know this to be true.

According to Avaya tech support it will work with R5, but isn't supported.
I’m going to try it and see what happens.
I can’t make this place any worst.

Is there a wall of shame for phone techs?

The previous dealer swapped out the IP 412 with an IP 500 v1.
Upgraded to R8 (didn't upgrade the voicemail)
They had 9 modules so when they swapped out the control unit, they lost 1.
The Receptionist was on that 9th module.
The 4 port expansion doesn’t work on R4, its R5 or higher
It's been a nightmare and I really need a pint of Guinness

Avaya only supports current release -1.

In the worst case scenario you simply change from IMS to vm to email via smtp.
You lose the vmbox\ebox sync but they still get the emails.
