Hello All!

I have installed couple of IMS clients 2.16 and foung out that it does not work correctly on WinXP with Outlook XP installed. It gives me the error

Could not connect to IMS server
Please check with your system Admin(that is me!!!!!!) that you have a valid network connection and that the IMS system is running.
Could not read from registry [80040150]

Any ideas? I have local admin rigts on the laptop and in the domain. I can also ping the IMS server just fine.

George

read the IMS instalation guide VERY carfully
it requires the correct aconts to be configured on the VM pc it also requires various settings on the exchange server

Where can I find the instructions?

George

I have used the manual.

the IMS client I mean. Is that what you were refering?

Ok. What is the issue with Windows XP and IMS client?

Best regards, George

This is what you need to do

BEFORE you start make sure you can send and receive e-mails.

assuming your ims server is on a domain and has local admin rights.

1 create new account on the ims server, and make it a member of local admin, users and guest.Make sure guest is enabled.
2 go to ims admin and set each voice mail account to use the account created above.
3 make sure the ims gateway and voice are using a domain account and not local system. You can find these in services on the ims server.

If anyone has successfully pulled this off, I'd love to talk w/ them. We've got Exchange 2003 server and have tried Win 2k and XP clients. It looks like the VM server is never sending the files in the first place.

2.1.10 is supposed to be compatilbe w/ 2003. Ideas?

Very Frustrated.....
Kris

As i said above it does work , check your services and make sure they are set to log on as domain account and not system, this is on the ims server.

They are logging in as the domain\IMS account. Still to no avail.

This was recently shared with me and may be helpful to others running XP SP2. I have IMS 2.1.10 on XPSP2, with Outlook 2003, and Exchange 2003.

Cut-N-Paste from an email (thanks Ronnie and Mark):

"Taken from Avaya IP Office tech tip #49 allegedly…

Additional enhancements to the operating system, in the Windows XP Service Pack 2, are within the security of DCOM. This gives rise to applications failing to operate, without any clear indication of the failure.

Within the IP Office application range there are programs, such as the IP Office IMS client, which utilise DCOM. The following information shows how to modify the security level to enable their correct operation. When running the component services icon (from

Administration) or `dcomcnfg' from the command line for the first time after the service pack installation, you will receive a security alert.

Select `Unblock' to continue. Navigate down to `My Computer' and select properties.

Select the COM Security tab.

Now edit the limits for `Access Permissions' and `Launch and Activation Permissions' to allow Remote Access and remote Launch/Activation permissions for anonymous and everyone.

After changing, click OK, and close Component Services manager."
