ImpUser.exe – Application Error

I have used several versions of Impromptu but this version would definitely be the most unreliable so far.

My problem occurs when saving a query as .csv
Saving as any other file type works fine.

Error Message:

ImpUser.exe – Application Error

The instruction at “0x77fcc2ae” referenced memory at “0x6c646e61”. The memory could not be “read”.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

This error message occurs at least a couple of times a week, but with a new catalogue change there are some existing queries which will not save to csv at all.

Most of the time I get the above error message, and other times impromptu just disappears.

I have searched everywhere but can’t get a solution to this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Drepso,

It's also very out of date. Funny though, the same type of problem just cropped up in version 7.3. It was fixed in the MR1 to 7.3.

I'd suggest you try to reinstall (if you know you did NOT have the problem previously with this version) or upgrade to the newest release, which does not have this issue.

Thanks Dave

Yes, it is very out of date. Chances of upgrading are slim to none unfortunately.

The company has decided to roll out a Business Objects MIS **cough**

I am only working on contract and won’t be here for much longer.

I would like to upgrade impromptu but they will be decommissioning it at the end of the year and letting business objects take over.

To my knowledge they are only acquiring the basic business objects software. Don’t know if it has an impromptu substitute for adhoc querying.

Is it possible to build cubes out of .dbf files? I can save the queries successfully in this format, however I don’t know if Transformer will handle this format (Ver 7.3) and my queries are running through scheduler via a macro and exporting to .csv as well. So I would need to alter my macro to export to dbf if this would work.

As upgrading is not an option, is the above possible?

Thanks again for your thoughts

Cheers

I seem to remember hearing that Cognos planned to drop support for .dbf files in versions 7.3. The alternative is to convert the .dbf files to .csv's and read them into transformer that way. This can usually be done in another tool, such as Excel, as long as the files don't contain more rows than Excel can easily handle.

Thanks Dave. I couldn't see support for.dbf in 7.3 transformer.

The only reason I was thinking about using a .dbf file is because I cannot export my impromptu query as a .csv file. The data sets are quite large too.

I don't think there is a way around the issue besides dropping the complexity of the query until it exports properly. Its a bit hit and miss for my liking, but other than upgrading I really don't have much choice.

Thanks for your input though.

Cheers

Another alternative is to use an ODBC driver for your .dbf files. Then Transformer will just see them as another ODBC source and you will not have to convert them.
