Improved performance when using Trace???

Has anyone heard of this before?

We have a VFP application hitting a SQL Server 2000 database, and the performance is twice as fast when toggling the trace on.

100 row process takes 11 seconds with trace on, 22 seconds with trace off. I've toggled it off and on several times with identical results...
