This is for Windows XP (which has owner names) and Impromptu 6.0. I have the cds and load the Cognos client tools myself.

I can open the catalog and create a new report using the database fields and the hot file fields in one report. There is only one report that just hangs. One time when canceling I saw a message about "Cognos\CER1\bin\cogudfor.sql" not found. I cannot find such a file on the PCs that I have checked.

Could it be signons and passwords? Or some Cognos registry file missing??

Thanks,M

hi,

Looks like you have an oracle database. The cogudfor.sql is a file for user defined functions for oracle.

Is your client/server setting set to datbase only and do you use 'non-standard'functions?

Did you try to execute the query with sql-plus? did it return any records?

good luck,

Martijn

Impromptu 6 is not certified for XP. There have been multiple reports of problems with it.

You could try a workaround of clicking on the Impromptu shortcut, right-clicking to properties, and on the compatibility tab select 'Windows 2000'.

Thank you both for the replies. Yes, I know that 6.0 and XP are not supported, that is why I tried here. We bought Cognos 7, but my boss will not let me upgrade and I have to suffer to try to keep 6.0 limping along. :(

I tried your suggestion of compatibility mode and sorry it did not help.

I am not allowed to use SQL Plus even though I am a developer in IT.

The client server is set to "FLexible" which usually works best for us. Not sure what non-standard would be. The Impromptu has no filters. The join in the catalog uses "first-word". I don't normally use that so I changed it to substring, but it did not help.

Anything else?,,,,, I think I may be up a creek on this one.

Sagae,

You haven't mentioned whether you are able to run or create any reports with Impromptu 6 on your computer. Is it only the hotfile report that will not run? Is the hotfile in the same location on your computer or network connection as it is on the user that can successfully run it?

Oh, sorry, guess I started in the middle of the story.

Yes, we have 100s of Impromptu reports that are running and have been running in this environment (XP) for a year now. I have several Impromptu reports on my PC that run fine. And some have hot files.

This seems to be one isolated case. I have done some more testing and actually the Impromptu does run, but fails when saving as a csv file. I did not notice this step in the macro, so now I am testing outside the macro. While exporting the csv file it just hangs. If I filter out some of the data, the export works. Soooo it must be file size. A previous run shows the file size of 300K.

Is there a limit to exporting a csv file, can I change it???

p.s. yes the reports and hotfile are in the same directory path on both machines. All the other Impromptu reports in that directory on my machine run fine.
