We are making heavy use of hyperlinking or navigating from report-to-report within the competing BusinessObjects product. This requirement is seen throughout the organization which is to be able to do contextual navigation, when navigating from a summary report to a detail.
This functionality is BusinessObject's version of a software easter egg! It is undocumented and very little is known about the list of required and optional parameters. Here are some of the issues we have:
-Hyperlink does not allow for opening the detail document into a new browser window, hence losing the context (activex viewer is standard viewing here).
-When linking to a detail document, by going back in the you are bounced back to the top of the report).
-Enviornment specific parameters. You must hard-code the url name into the universe (in cognos world, catalog) and it's environment specific parameters (unique id assigned, etc), therefore migration and DR to another web implementation is quite cumbersome.
What I would like to know is how is this handled in impromptu web reports? This is the competing product to our Businessobjects implementation, where we are using two-tier client server repors and presenting them over the web. Cognos Impromptu web reports advertises it does report-to-report linking for quick navigation.. and that it's built into the product. Could someone who has experience with this product describe some details on how this functionality is implemented in Impromptu web reports? In addition, do similiar issues exist?
Thanks in advance for any\all of your help
