Hey Impromptu Experts,

Is it possible to use a single prompt for multiple queries? My report contains about 6 queries where in each one generates a single value that I put into a text box sub-report. However, in each of these queries I will convert a particular currency to another based on current forex values.

My goal is to prompt only once for the forex value and apply this value through the other queries.

I would appreciate your help.

If you create the prompt in the primary report it should be available to use in all of the sub reports.

Just to make sure we understand it correctly here's the report format:

Customer Summary

Total Customers : ___________________
Average items per customer : ___________________
Average sales per customer : ___________________

Number of Local Customers : ___________________
Average items per customer : ___________________
Average sales per customer : ___________________

Number of Int'l Customers : ___________________
Average items per customer : ___________________
Average sales per customer : ___________________

If I'm to built this in Impromptu I have to build several queries for each item. So far what I did was create a query initially on the Total Customers. I also want to know if there's a way to store results from one query and use the results for calculation in another query.

Hi Monsky,

Are you sure you must create multiple sub-report. Is it possible to retrieve all item in a report and create a calculation field within use a summaries function. After that you can show this calculation fiels in a footer section and don't show detail (where is all detail item).

It's a suggestion.

Gilles.

I would agree with GilMerc, why not just create calculated summaries.
If your using Oracle the decode statement: total(decode(CustomerType,"Local",1,0)) to get Local Customers.

They don't need the detail. It's basically statistics. I've asked them and it's what they only need. No details.

If the users don't want to see any detils then just hide the details sections and just show the summary formulas.

I"m still new to Cognos Impromptu. I guess I can follow your suggestion. However, can I turn it into the format I've shown above?

Bring all of the data required onto th ereport and then create calvulationbs to show the summary information you require.

These can then be displayed in the report footer section in the format you require.
