Hi all,

I have an external application in that user select some criterias for a report and he select a group by field too.

My question is, does it more efficient create one report per grouping option field or create one report for extraction and one model per grouping option field.

thank's, Gilles

I have in the past created a View in the database that contains the information for a series of similiar reports with the same grouping requirements. When I create the reports to run against the View. Grouping doesn't enter into it because it's already been done. In some cases I think this is a good approach but in most cases I'll doing the grouping within Impromptu and it gets passed to SQL. If you were just doing SQL queries you still get a slower response time when grouping anything.

Unfortunately Mark,

My problem is the groupement of information in a report and not when I extract the data.

Originaly, I'm thinking extract the data in a report and after this apply a template to setup a report depending on a group by selected by a user, but it doesn't works.

I understand, after more and more tests, the apply template works only for header and footer and not for body report.

Gilles.

Gilles,

You may want to look at the FAQ401-2137 for the use of Impromptu prompts to provide flexible grouping for reports. Depending on the location of the data elements used for grouping, you can often provide a single report that groups dynamically without a significant performance hit.

Hope this helps,
