Impromptu Format A*

My data is coming through as all capital letters. I'm trying to use the format Aa* so that it comes through without all caps. However, when I try using the format, it blanks out the data so there is nothing there.
I am using Impromptu 7.1 User edition. I originally had this report in Impromptu 6.0 Administrator edition. When I converted it, it left them blank, so I re-created the report from scratch and it still made the fields blank when I tried formatting them, so I don't believe it's a conversion problem.

Has anyone else had this problem with 7.1 User edition?
