i have a report which uses a crosstab to show run times for multiple machines foreach day of last week,

The crosstab has Machine as rows, Date as columns and run speed as cells.
There is a bar chart in the machine Footer showing speeds for each date.

My problem is when the dates change from week to week the chart does not automatically update with the new dates.

I can't believe Impromptu doesn't automatically use the new columns or is this me being naive.

Any suggestions please ?

Do you have a picture of a chart or a chart frame? Inserted in there.

Hi stewm

I'm using a chart frame, but after a little more digging on the cognos knowledge base it seems my suspicions were right, impromptu charts don't automatically reflect changes to crosstabs.

The workaround is to fix the name of the fields you are charting i.e. in my case instead of having dates i used calculated columns for each day of the week Mon, Tue etc..

I still find it hard to believe such a fundamental requirement as this is not possible.

The code base for Impromptu has been around since the early ninties. I havn't seen much of ReportNet but hopefully some of this snags no longer exist with that product. I find it hard getting a half decent looking stacked bar chart in Impromptu.
