lspv shows one disk not being assigned to a VG
hdisk4 000274236d63cfbd None

importvg hdisk4 gives me this.
0516-066 lqueryvg: Physical volume is not a volume group member.
Check the physical volume name specified.
0516-066 lqueryvg: Physical volume is not a volume group member.
Check the physical volume name specified.
0516-562 redefinevg: Unable to access physical volume hdisk4
0516-780 importvg: Unable to import volume group from hdisk4.

lsdev -Cc disk | grep hdisk4
hdisk4 Available 10-70-00-1,1 EMC Symmetrix

Any suggestions?
TIA!

If it is a freshly defined/reformatted volume in EMC - then this seems normal behaviour to me.

If you want to create a new VG - smitty mkvg.

If you believe this to be an exported VG from another system, perhaps a mistake was made when reassigning the SAN volume and the wrong volume was assigned?

If you are migrating a VG from one server to another - are you sure the volume is no longer assigned to/in use by another server?

p5wizard:

I am not 100% sure, if there was anything in this disk before? However, there is a PVID assigned to it.

But, this could be a PV that was never touched, meaning a fresh defined/reformatted volume ....

So, I guess I an try extending a VG and see what happens...

TIA!

Didn't even notice the PVID in your original post... FAFS I guess.

A PV that once was a VG member bit since then has been reducevg'd out of that VG will keep the PVID assigned to it unless you reformat it or otherwise obliterate the disk block that contains the PVID.
