Importing variable length text files

I am running Access 2003.

How do I import a variable length text file? The fixed part of the record contains demographic information and the variable part is a two character type program field and two date fields.

Access is setup to import fixed width files and Delimited files. You can specify just about any delimiter but tabs and commas are probably the more common.

Does that help? If not, can you provide more information, maybe a sample of what variable lenght you are seeing?
