Importing style issues

I did a search and couldn't find the exact fix to my problem.

I usually work with scientific papers, which have a lot of special character formats such as bold, italics, super/subscripts, and small-caps. The trouble is, I lose all these special formats when I copy the text from the Word documents and paste them into unstyled text fields in InDesign.

Am I doing something wrong?

Why was this not an issue in Adobe Pagemaker 6.5, which is ancient in comparison to InDesign CS2?

I'm probably just missing something... right?

Thanks in advance!

Try using Place instead of copy/paste. When you get the place window, check "show import options" and pick what you need in the next window. I've never lost formatting on a Word doc when doing "place".

I'm still on CS, not CS2, but I believe taht CS2 has more options for importing styles from Word.
