ok, i have read all the advice here and all the tutorials i could find regarding importing a quicktime .mov into flash. I found one site thanks to oldnewbie's advice on an earlier thread only that tutorial uses either an outdated version of flash or perhaps is dealing with flash for pc (in one of the steps, it says to export the flash file to *.bmp from the dropdown menu, but in flash for mac there is no such choice).

hence i am writing for help because i have a 30 second movie clip i want to import and i simply cannot. i know how to import the quicktime into flash and such. this is pretty basic, but what to do next is really mistifying...

any help is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Basicly you can't import video files in Flash! On MACs or on PCs! In Flash 4 or in Flash 5!

Possible workarounds include streaming the video file from Flash (usually bad quality!) - with such apllications as: or converting your video as an image sequence, and then sort of recreating the video file in Flash, by importing that image sequence.
Macs could possibly do it through a jpeg sequence rather than a bitmap one.

Be prepared for a huge file size.

import the quicktime move to the library and then add it to the timeline in the first frame.
ensure that the flash movie frames per second matches that of the quicktime.
Press F5 to extend the timeline out to match the length of the movie.
then choose file/export/jpg sequence to a specified folder.

start a new project and go to the first frame on the timeline and highlight it
choose file/import and choose the first image in the sequence and click ok. It will say that this appears to be part of a sequence and do you want to import all of them click ok.
the images now appear in sequence on your timeline so if you export as swf voila! Hope this helps
