Hello

Could someone please help me. I need to do a report on conversion of Paradox to Access 2000.

First of all is this possible, and if so what are the things I need to consider (eg, Redevelopment of Forms, Reports etc as these cannot be migrated, Some intermediate driver for conversion)

Secondly what can be migrated and what cannot.

Thirdly can the data be converted back to Paradox if necessary or is it a one way process.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Anything with ODBC driver capabilities can read and write both Paradox and Access tables. If you have access to the two programs, make up some dummy files and try reading and modifying the data, then reopening with the other packages. I'm very sure you can open a Paradox file with Paradox and save it as an Access file and vice versa.

I don't think forms and reports and queries can be migrated, so any code associated with them would have to be redeveloped.

You can migrate the data from Access to Paradox. Please keep in mind that whenever you do a data migration it’s lots of work. I would suggest that you only make it a one-way move.
Going back and forth is going to be painful. Of course, if you like pain, by all mean….

When you do the migration, you will have to match up the data types. That is, you will have to find the closest data type between Access and Paradox.

As to forms, reports etc. You will have to re-create them all. Yup, isn’t that fun!

You can do as Rose/Miros suggested, use ODBC for data access. Then, you can create the forms and reports in Paradox but keep the data in Access database.

So, to answer your question, can you move data back and forth between Access and Paradox?
Yes.

But, Do you really want to do that?

hello it`s me
I hope you had luck with your conversion problem, and I hope I can get some help with mine (sorry I can`t get back to the appropriate page to ask the question for some reason)
My problem is with a paradox database that I can`t import into access, I get the error message "not in the expected format". I have got it to work on one machine with office 2000 on it but thats the only one , even though the others were done at the same time has any one else had this problem? I don`t have any Corel software so I cant export from Corel then import so i cant convert it to any other file type first.
Many Thanks for any help
