When I import resource data from Excel to a task with no resources the resource wil be added. When I want to add extra resources to a task the exsisting resource will be replaced with the new one and nothing is added. I only use the resource assingment tab and update the project.

Importing new resources from Excel

Thirst of all best wishes for 2004.
Because I don't know how to attach data to a post I will provide a short description
What I do is I export a simple project for example 2 tasks with each 1 resource. Then in the resource tab I copy the resource of the 1st task. Then I replace all information wich points to the first task with information of the second task. Also I change ID numbers etc and the amount of hours. When I import this into MSProject the first task is correct. The second one only the second resource is visible. I don't make any use of VBA, just "save as" and "Open" in MSProject.
My goal is as follows. The firm I work has a calculation program which provides resources. Now we want to ad this resources to a planning. So with VBA I bring the information from the "dbf" files from the calculation program to one Excel sheet. After this I want to update my planning with the information from the calculation to bring the exact calculated resources to the planning. When there is no resource added to a task this goes great. But when I make a second run with additional information the earlier mentioned problem comes forward.

Please excuse this question if it seems too basic.
Does this mean that I can prepare the plan with resources, times and dependencies in Excel and then import the sheet into MS Project?
Then I could generate the GANTT and PERT diagrams from project to highlight the critical path etc.

There are two way's.
1) The plan can be totally generated in Excel out of the calculation program, exept durations and dependencies. After importing in MS Project the planner finalies the information.
2) In MS project the GANTT and PERT diagrams are made. In a field there is a certain key code for connection to excell sheet where the resources are imported from.
Both ways are possible. We do this already with an other planning tool but there is also a question for MS Project so thats why we ran accross the problem, which is I'm afraid caused by lack of knowledge of MS Project.
