Hi, I'm relatively new to access.

My Problem: I have a lot of data to import from excel. All this data needs to go into one simple Customer table. I have been using the "import speadsheet wizard". The first smallish sheet is no problem, however when trying to import a large one, I get denied, it says just "error occurred trying to import file" Total table size if all the data was entered would be approx. 60,000 cells deep.

Not sure whether the sheet size and my HW spec. is an issue 128mb RAM, P2 - is it?

TIA

Aron

I've seen this problem on a novell network because the number of record locks was set too low. Once we increased the record locks we stopped getting the error. VBSlammer

Hi ..

YOu can get past this by changing the MaxRecordLocksPerFile setting in the registry. I had it fall over on 18000. I increased it to 200 000 and it worked. Just go into the registry with regedit, do a search for that entry and change it. It should work fine.

It is basically to do with the locking on the JET database engine. You can also change it programmatically if you are importing in code. Do a search for MaxRecordLocksPerFile on to get a MS article on this problem.

Cheers,
Nathan

Thanks to both Nathan and VBSlammer,

I am now creating this database on a Novell newtork node successfully.
