I'm trying to import text (only) from a Publisher document, and am having a hard time with pagination. The conversion tool didn't work at all, so I've tried two things. First, I saved as RTF but Pagemaker couldn't open that file. So I cut/pasted all of the text and seem to have lost my page breaks. Should I cut/paste one page at a time or is there a way to tell Pagemaker to start the following text on the next page?

Hope someone can help. I'm adept with Publisher but barely stumbling my way thru PageMaker. In fact, I'm wondering if it's worth the extra effort. Your thoughts (and tips) much appreciated.

Still-a-newbie,

Hi, textpro.

You really need to read your User Guide - thread227-880840

A few basics.

PM is page layout software. It is not an electronic typewriter based on text starting in the top left hand corner and working down to the bottom right hand corner. Imagine a blank piece of paper on your desk, on to which you place pictures and blocks of text.

PM will not open RTF files - it will only open PageMaker files. Pagemake is the final stage before printing. Text and images are prepared elsewhere and placed onto the page.

SO:

To place your text and images on the PageMaker page, use File -> Place. (surprise, surprise)

Do not copy from Publisher and paste on the PM page. The windows clipboard is not up it.

I would keep quiet about Publisher in this forum if I were you. Compared to PM, it'll always come off 2nd.

BTW, the future of DTP is InDesign.

Use your PM Licence number to move up to Adobe InDesign CS PageMaker Edition.

Hi,

Your problem could be solve by saving your document in RTF format or any other format acceptable to PM and activate autoflow, then, select place from the file menu and then, click where you want the text to start from. PM will create pages as much as the pages contained in the document.
