I am using Flash 8 and I am getting the following message when I try to import a .mpg file into the flash library.
"A required system library did not initialize properly. Please ensure you have DirectShow 9 and Quicktime 6.5 or higher installed on your system."
I don't have either DirectShow or Quicktime installed on my system. Do I have to download both of these programs or does someone know of a better way?
Thanks

For converting my mpg, avi etc. files to flv or swf I use Video to Flash encoder PRO by geovid. I have trial version without time limit and it's very easy and simple program for me.
You can try it.

All the best!!!

Thanks for your posts,
I will try the Geovid software that converts the videos.
Right now I have to go back to another machine that I have Flash MX on and do the conversions. I must have loaded the Sorenson video convertor onto that machine as that is what it is using to do the conversion. I am finding that with larger mpg files, that the audio is not fully in synch with the video.
Star to you.

Im having the same problem and same error message when importing mpg or avi files. Ive tried downloading the microsoft and quicktime components and re-installing all of them, but no matter what, I can not get any of my avi or mpg or wmv files into flash so that i can work on them. I'm evaluating flash 8 right now and I need to test it out, so I dont want to go to a third party and just convert things until something works. I expect I could convert the videos to mov files and they'd probably work, but there's something wrong in flash if it wont work like its supposed to and Id like to know how to fix that rather than work around it.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Howdy bookouri,

I found wrapped in the Macromedia Studio 8, there is a program called "Macromedia Flash 8 Video Encoder".
It works great. So I gave up on the 3rd party stuff and I am sticking with this program.

I don't know if you only buy Flash if it comes with it, but it is working for me, but I own Studio 8

Hope this helps.

The current Flash version - Adobe Flash 8 has the encoder but it gives me the same error message as the actual Flash part.

somewhere around here we have a copy of the Macromedia version, I'll have to dig around and see if i can find it.
