I am new to SQL server database admin so apologies if this is a stupid question but when importing a FoxPro database into SQL do you lose all indexes?

Many Thanks

Andy

Andy,

It depends how you do the import. If I remember right, if you use DTS, it will convert the VFP indexes into foreign key contraints. However, this does not happen if you use the VFP upsizing wizard. I recall once having to create the indexes manually after using the upsizing wizard.

Many of the reasons for FoxPro indexes disappear when the data is on SQL server. Once you have the application running with real data you can use the appropriate tools to determine what indexes and what type(s) you need to optimize performance.
