I am having problems importing images into flash that were made in Photoshop with a transparent background. When they are imported to flash the background turns white. Why is this and how can I prevent this from happening? Please help me.

You can use the "export transparent images" wizard in Photoshop to export images in .png format (or .gif if you prefer) which can be imported into Flash without the white background you talked about.

Import the gif into Flash. Use the Break Apart command to break the image into pixels. Then use the lasso tool with the Magic Wand option turned on. It is just like the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop. Delete the colour you don't want.

There you have it.

and you need do none of this if you jsut export from fireworks instead. Does it all for you.

Actually the thing to do is not use the gif format at all. Flash loves the .png format and you can export that (with transparency) from Photoshop with millions of colors and yes... transparency gradients!
