Hi can anyone help.

I am having problems importing images from illustrator to quark5. I manage to get the image into quark fine, but the problem is that the picture quality really declines when it gets into Quark. While the image is still in illustrator it prints out crystal clear, but when i import it into quark and then try to print it out, it goes really blocky and no where near as good quality as it was in illustrator. Is there any way i can use quark to make the quality better?

You need a postscript printer to get optimal results, otherwise quark just prints the low-resolution preview images that you see on screen. Two solutions spring to mind:

1: Get a postscript printer, or RIP software for your current printer.

2: Save the quark file in another format. For example, you could save each page as an eps, open it in Illustrator and print it from there. If you have Acrobat, you could create a PDF file and print from that.

Hope this helps!

In Illustrator try raising your attributes to a higher resolution. Look for the pallette - - the default is usually 800. When we work on client files at the printer I work for, we raise the attributes to 2540 to help eliminate this blocky problem your are experinceing.

If you are sending to a printer it SHOULD be okay. just looks like crap when printing to an inkjet or laser. I've had some of the same issues and had to get a blueline to actually beleive that it will come out okay.

I have the same problem.
My image looks awful once it is in quarkxpress but fine when in illustrator. Also, it is really large and I would like to resize it.

hello again. I just saved my quark file as an eps and opened it in illustrator. Everything looks fine. So I am assuming it was just the low res preview that quark has. When I hand this file over to the company to be get printed, which format do I give? the eps or the qxd?

Give the printer your Quark file. Everything is fine with the file. It only looks bad because you do not have a postscript printer. Your files will output just fine when doing highend reproduction. Giving someone an eps created from Quark and then resaved as an Illustrator eps only adds an extra step and an extra opportunity for something to go wrong. If last minute changes need to be made it will be better for the printer to have the native format.
